As the end of 2020 approaches, we’re all experiencing pandemic fatigue while needing to continue safe practices through the holidays and beyond. We turned to our loyal readers to inspire us with what’s working for them to thrive in this difficult time.
We hope you’ll be inspired, too!
SMALL VICTORIES
What’s the best new strategy you’re using to get through the pandemic?
- All meetings with people are outside, with masks, and distancing.
- Praying!
- Positive attitude; spending as much time as possible out in fresh air!
- Working on home projects and keeping busy.
- Basically taking all the protocol you’ve suggested plus fresh air, exercise, and essential oils.
- Taking supplements and eating healthy foods- trying to stay home as much as possible.
- Ensure I get at least one thing done around the house and walk the dog daily.
- Taking yoga and qi gong classes online every week.

ADJUSTING WITH GRACE
What new or amended seasonal traditions are you adopting this year?
- Taking time to do simple activities at home…baking cookies, watching movies, playing games, holiday jigsaw puzzles.
- We will decorate the back yard and host our grandchildren and friends outside…with a firepit to keep warm.
- Canceled family gatherings, will contact via phone or Zoom the out-of-staters.
- Staying in our own homes and using phone more.
- Family Friday – Christmas house making (like gingerbread), Christmas themed games, Christmas movie with hot cocoa bar and popcorn.
- Watching church services online.
- Keeping things as normal as can be. Calling my 88-year-old father more often.
- No new, but amending traditions with just members of the household.
- Keeping with our immediate family.
- Buying special food treats; not baking…no tree, just Christmas decorations throughout the house.
- Cooking at home versus going to family.
After 63 years of marriage, we will be spending this season as we started, alone together.
POSITIVE FOCUS
What tip would you give a friend about how to cope?
- Focus on what you can do. Make plans for “when we can get together safely.”
- Talk to someone ‘live’ every day. Not texting, not emailing, live, skype, facetime, phone, live…
- Start each day with gratitude.
- Keep an upbeat mindset, don’t dwell on the virus, stay busy, and move forward.

STAYING STRONG
What habit is keeping you healthy?
Forty-one perent of you are walking, walking, walking! Plus these habits are keeping you healthy.

- Stay home as much as possible. There’s no reason to be out shopping.
- Wearing a mask and washing & sanitizing frequently.
- Eating more fruit than we usually do and taking time for a cup of hot tea and maybe a good book.
- Mask, gloves, washing often, praying.
- Eating more fruits and veggies.

- Not living in fear and keeping the immune system healthy.
- Reading.
- Regular sleep and vitamins.
- Doing more in-home cooking.
REACHING OUT
How are you staying connected to others during this time of social distancing?
Texting, phone calls, FaceTime, and Zoom are as popular for connecting as you might imagine. Other inventive ideas include:
- Outdoor gatherings of four or five people at the most.
- Sending handmade cards.
- Using meet on Gmail.
- Spending most of my time with family.
- Large family helps especially seeing grandkids.
- Still seeing closest family and friends, just not as often.
