Heart Health

Many people with heart-related issues, such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and elevated blood pressure benefit greatly from a holistic approach. Targeted eating and supplementation are such important adjuncts to medical care. Read some of the linked blogs to understand how.

Elevated cholesterol levels are thought to be associated with a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, and heart disease such as atherosclerosis. It may also be one of the three major red flags, along with increased blood pressure and increased blood sugars, of pre-diabetes/insulin resistance is brewing. Diet and lifestyle play a role in preventing heart disease but there are other, often overlooked factors, that can be addressed.

Some of these include:

  • low thyroid function
  • nutritional deficiencies such as niacin, vitamin C, B5
  • stress
  • genetic tendencies

Our goal is to avoid the use of medications or to significantly reduce them while maintaining optimal heart function.

Blood Pressure

Elevated blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart attacks or strokes. It is extremely important to consistently maintain normal blood pressure. There can be many causes of high blood pressure and it can often be managed without medication.

Here are some of the causes of high blood pressure that we investigate here at BeWell Associates:

  • Excessive stress, specifically, high cortisol
  • Hidden food allergies
  • Imbalanced electrolytes
  • Nutritional deficiencies, such as B6, COQ 10, or magnesium
  • Heavy metal toxicity
  • Omega 3:6 imbalance
  • Overweight
  • Smoking
  • Excess caffeine

In addition to addressing the underlying causes of imbalance, we consider diet, exercise, and emotional health as essential factors to keeping the heart strong. A holistic approach, which addresses mind, body, and spirit, considers each of these components and supports the whole person in their journey to achieve vibrant good health.

Pre-diabetes/Insulin Resistance/Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that occurs when the body cannot use glucose (a type of sugar) normally. As we all know, there is an epidemic of diabetes in our country. The combination of a high sugar diet and unrelenting stress set the stage for this destructive disease. The good news is that through a combination of dietary changes, targeted supplementation, exercise, and stress management, the tide can be turned. Especially when pre-diabetic or Insulin Resistant, blood sugars can be corrected and the onset of the disease stopped or reversed. Even when insulin is being used, some people are able to stop or significantly reduce their medication. If ever there was a condition that responds to lifestyle changes, this is the one!

Blood Sugars Digestion Sleep Energy all improved in 66 year old….it’s never too late!

Since we started working together five months ago I have been able to slash my 17 !) prescription meds in half. And what’s even better is my A1 C is down significantly even over the Christmas holidays. My morning blood sugars are much better and I’m finally starting to lose weight. My heartburn is completely gone even though I am off heartburn medication and sleeping better without sleeping pills. The restless legs have stopped. I’m happy to report that I no longer take naps and can keep up with my teenage granddaughter when we go shopping together! I’m thrilled with my progress, and so is my doctor. I can’t thank you enough, Monica. You’ve given me my life back.

Type I Diabetes in a Child

Love the approach to helping both my Type 1 diabetic daughter and myself! Monica was amazing at helping me with my food sensitivities, recognizing other issues and helping find a holistic way to improve them. My daughter developed food sensitivities due to her diabetes and Monica has been a huge factor in her feeling better. No more headaches, sick belly, or crazy skin for my daughter!! My hormone imbalance and sleepless nights are gone!!! The doctors kept trying to prescribe medicine for the symptoms but never tried to find the root of the problem & fix it, they just wanted to give us a pill to fix it. We now have adjusted our diet, added needed supplements and are feeling great!! Thank you!

A Thorough Approach that Leads to Results

If you are having issues with body inflammation, GI issues, headaches, insomnia, or suffer from autoimmune-related diseases, this is where you need to be. Monica gives every patient her full and undivided attention to discuss the issues at hand and to talk about the extensive and in-depth new patient information she has every new patient fill out and return prior to the first appointment. Before you get there, Monica has studied and researched your answers on the paperwork. Chances are good she already knows what you need to resolve the issues. You will be impressed by her vast knowledge of adrenal issues and hormone imbalance, but most impressive is her confidence in her diagnosis and the treatment she prescribes. I have never been steered in the wrong direction nor have I ever left the office feeling anything less than elated with all I have learned. Within a few weeks of following your wellness plan, you will feel like a new person and your health restored. I highly recommend BeWell Associates!

Increased Energy Decreased Cholesterol & No More Reflux

In 3 months on BeWell’s program I’ve lost 30 pounds, my cholesterol went down 33 points, my triglycerides 112 points, and my good cholesterol went up 5. My blood sugar came down 17 points. I have decreased both my medications by half and plan to keep going. I have much more energy, no reflux (and have stopped my reflux meds), and I am walking without knee pain. I still have a ways to go and exercise has been really important
to my program, but I’m happy with my results.”

Dramatic Results in Lowering Blood Sugar

What an incredible difference in my life since I started working with BeWell. My blood sugar has come down so dramatically just in the last week! Yesterday it was 73 fasting and 149 two hours after breakfast. It’s really neat to see this change for my poor battered body. Here we are – more than five nutritionists and countless diet programs later and finally there is some hope for me that I will not have to go on insulin. I feel good. I am happy. We are so fortunate.

Decrease in Average Blood Sugar (HA1C)

In just 3 months on Monica’s program my A1C (three month average blood sugar) went from 6.8 to 5.8 and I lost 15 pounds. Best part is my reflux is gone even without the high dose Nexium I was on. I have a lot more energy, sleeping more soundly and feel great.

Weight Loss and Great Numbers!

Thank you for helping me get on the right road and getting my body to function properly. As of now, I am down 31 pounds and feel much better. Knowing what to eat and when to eat it has made it much easier, and I am never hungry. Thanks again for helping me not become a statistic as a diabetic. It takes some work, but I think it is better than finger pricks, prescription meds, or insulin shots. I’m happy with my recent numbers and my doctor is also. My A1C is down from 6.6 to 5.7, just .1 away from “normal,” total cholesterol down from 193 to 137, triglycerides down from 123 to 65, LDL down from 124 to 79, and my risk of stroke/heart attack went from 4.39 to 3.04, considered “low.” Thanks, Monica!

Off Blood Pressure Medication and Sleeping Pills

I just wanted to share that I have not taken a sleeping pill in over a week, and have cut anxiety meds in half. I’m able to fall asleep and stay asleep. My blood pressure this morning was 115/75 at a health fair… at WORK! I can’t believe it! Thank you!!! I see the light at the end of the tunnel!
