Angélique Clemson, D.O.

Headshot of Angélique ClemsonAngélique Clemson, D.O., is a dual board-certified integrative medicine and family medicine specialist and has been a practicing primary care physician for more than 20 years. She currently focuses her practice on traditional osteopathic methods that use gentle hands-on manual approaches for diagnosis and treatment, effective for all age groups from infants and children to adults. These therapies include osteopathic manual medicine (OMM), cranial osteopathy, energy medicine modalities, and complementary integrative medicine.

With her deep-seated appreciation of nature and science she also holds degrees in microbiology, exercise physiology, and osteopathic medicine and surgery. She has been practicing Reiki and other energy medicine modalities for more than 30 years and is a Certified Reiki Master. She holds additional medical expertise in Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM), including certification in cranial osteopathy from the Cranial Academy. She completed the prestigious Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona’s Center for Integrative Medicine as founded and directed by Dr. Andrew Weil.

As an osteopath, Dr. Clemson seeks to find the underlying root causes of chronic disease and dysfunction while cultivating self-healing, resilience, stress management, prevention and personal development. Osteopathic doctors are fully licensed physicians represented in all fields of medicine and surgery. They have the designation D.O. for Doctor of Osteopathy instead of the M.D. degree and are rigorously trained in additional diagnostic and treatment techniques not available in allopathic (M.D.) training. Osteopathic physicians are uniquely positioned to look beyond symptoms of illness and disease to treat the patient as a whole system of spirit, mind and body; to partner with patients to help prevent illness and injury; and to use their hands to diagnose illness and injury and increase the body’s natural tendency toward self-healing.

We are all exposed to stressors and traumas of varying degrees daily and the gradual accumulation of stresses that remain unprocessed or are overwhelming to our natural defense systems eventually show themselves as imbalance, illness or disease in one or more of the five bodies of our human systems: spirit, energy, mental, emotional and physical. These imbalances are stored and appear as strain patterns in the physical body.

Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) is a safe, powerful, and engaging method that regulates the underlying physiological structure and function, particularly of connective tissue strain patterns that affect the entire body and can cause physical, mental and emotional symptoms. Releasing the strain patterns balances the function of the entire system, relieves pain as well as other symptoms.

Cranial osteopathy is a subtle form of osteopathic manipulative therapy that uses very gentle pressure to encourage the release of stresses and connective tissue tension throughout the body in order to restore balance. It is called ‘cranial’ because treatment often involves the head, although other parts of the body such as the spine and tailbone can also be involved. These healing techniques are gentle and safe for all ages from infants to the elderly and for all levels of health and disability.

Energy medicine describes a group of healing modalities and traditional philosophies that consider subtle energies, including the electromagnetic field that underlies the physical structure of the body, and its interface with the environment. It incorporates hands-on methods and other techniques that change, stimulate, or shift this underlying subtle energy to restore balance and flow of the energy or life force. Energy-based therapies are a part of most traditional medicine paradigms around the world. In fact, many ancient healing techniques are primarily centered around the core tenets of energy medicine. Dr Clemson employs such modalities within the evidence-based framework of osteopathy and cranial manual medicine to both diagnose and treat underlying energetic, biomechanical, and functional disturbances of the physiology to relieve symptoms of injury, imbalance, illness, and disease and to restore natural function and vitality.

Dr. Clemson’s mission is to inspire you to connect with your highest state of wellbeing, to guide you on your healing journey, to empower you to unveil your innate healing potential, and to partner with you to create a foundation for sustainable wellness. Her immersion in spiritual and healing arts, along with the discovery of innovative methods to reveal and enhance innate healing, continues to evolve and grow through her professional and personal practices.

Dr. Clemson has a strong love of and connection to nature, family and the healing arts. The crossroads of science, philosophy, ancient wisdom, and Spirit is her favorite place to hang out. She thrives on hiking, biking, and Shinrin-Yoku. Her special interests include food as medicine, exercise science, and movement therapies, Shamanism in the Celtic, Maya, and Native American traditions with current tutelage through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, use of ceremony and ritual for healing, herbalism in the form of plants as everyday medicine as well as use of essential oils, supplemental botanicals and plant essences for healing and support, and other ancient Traditional Medicine Systems such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Homeopathy.

Her core personal practice and love is Qigong in all its forms, and she is currently in training for teaching certification in YoQi – a modern fusion of Taoist and Hindu yoga rooted in traditional Qigong practices and philosophy, as well as training in a traditional Qigong apprenticeship with Dr. Chris Laseter in the internal martial art of Yi Chuan.
