Perimenopause: the transition from menstrual cycling to not.  Every woman experiences it. And guess what? so do their families, especially if hormones are out of balance and women are cranky and unhappy.  Since perimenopause can take up to ten years, its best for everyone if the transition is smooth!

How do you know you might be perimenopausal?

  • You are between the ages of 35-50
  • Changes in period, heavier, lighter, more cramps and clots
  • Changes in length of cycle, shorter, longer, spotting in between
  • Severe mood swings
  • Anxiety and depression, especially if new
  • Insomnia
  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Dry tissues: vaginal, eyes, nose, mouth
  • Creaky joints (estrogen is a lubricant and as it decreases so does lubrication)
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of libido

The hormone that is most depleted during this time tends to be progesterone, which is considered Nature’s Valium.  So you can see why anxiety and insomnia are often part of this process.  Read more about this key hormone here.

Our favorite remedy for perimenopause is PMT, the multivitamin designed specifically for perimenopause. It has it all. It’s a complete multivitamin with 1500 mg of vitamin C to support the adrenals and the classic menopausal herbs: black cohosh, dong quai and vitex.  Some digestive enzymes as well because digestion often becomes a little quirky during this time.

We also recommend the Estronex test at this time to make sure you are eliminating hormones properly. This simple urine test is a great way to catch imbalances before they become cancerous.  We recommend annual testing especially during perimenopause, when many women develop hormone related cancers.  Reading about the Progesterone Steal will help you understand WHY.

If you’re starting to experience the symptoms of menopause if you’re between the ages of 35 and 50 and beginning to experience the symptoms of perimenopause we recommend PMT and the Estronex Test.

YOU can be 40 and fabulous!
