We’re very excited to welcome a new clinician to our practice, Mary Kate Gowdy, who moved from eastern PA to join us at BeWell. We asked Mary some questions to help you get to know her better.
MKG: I was interested in health in general throughout high school. I was very into food and exercise, especially being out in nature. I took a nutrition course my very first semester in college and just fell in love with it. Although I ended up majoring in psychology, that took me back to nutrition due to the powerful gut-brain connection and how much food truly affects mood.
MKG: I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Health as a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach and had been running an integrative weight loss program and loving it. However, I was getting more and more clients with really complex issues and I knew I needed a more science-based education so I could help as many people as possible. That led me to the Clinical Nutrition and Integrative Health Masters Program at Maryland University of Integrative Health.
MKG: The Mind-Body-Spirit connection is very important to me – understanding who each person is and empowering them on their journey. I love getting to know every aspect of my client and their life as well as watching their transformations to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
MKG: More recently, I wasn’t getting to exercise as much as I wanted due to graduate school and work commitments. Now that I’m settling in at BeWell, I want to find time to rebuild my commitment to yoga, walking, and being outdoors.
MKG: Cooked vegetables at every meal! I add spinach or kale to my morning smoothies or tons of veggies to my crustless quiche. Lunch and dinner always include healthy proteins and cooked veggies.
MKG: I always have dark chocolate with caramel in my freezer.
